Terms of Service
LeanRead ("the Service") is a reading, compression, and citation workspace available at leanread.app. LeanRead is a product of LightCode ("LightCode", "we", "us"), reachable at [email protected]. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
LeanRead lets you load documents, generate compressed versions of their text, listen to text with speech playback, and create citations. Core features run locally in your browser. Every new account includes a 14-day free trial of the full Service — no payment method required. After the trial, an active subscription is required to continue using the Service. The Service is in active development and features may change.
2. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service.
3. Your content
Documents you upload and the notes, citations, and sources you create remain yours. We claim no ownership of them. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and process the documents you use with the Service, including under copyright law. If you enable cloud sync, your synced content is stored so we can provide the feature; we do not sell it or use it to train AI models.
4. AI features
When you choose AI compression, the text you submit is sent to a third-party AI provider for processing. AI output can contain errors or omissions. Compressed text is an aid to reading, not a replacement for the original; you are responsible for verifying quotations, citations, and meaning against the source before relying on them in academic or professional work.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are $9 per month or $90 per year, after a 14-day free trial that starts when your account is created (pricing may change with notice; changes never apply retroactively to an active billing period). Payments are processed by Paddle.com, our merchant of record — your purchase is made from Paddle, which handles payment, applicable taxes, invoices, and refunds on our behalf. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal in the app; access continues through the end of the paid period.
6. Refunds
If you are not satisfied, contact [email protected] within 14 days of a charge and we will issue a full refund of that charge through Paddle.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service — including attempting to breach its security, circumvent subscription checks, use it to infringe others' intellectual property, resell it without permission, or subject it to automated abuse. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
8. Availability and disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We work to keep it available and to protect your data (including through backups), but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service or that content will never be lost — keep copies of documents that matter to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, LightCode's total liability arising from the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend access for violation of these Terms. Upon account deletion, synced content is removed as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be announced by email or in the app before they take effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
